another day another innocent person killed by a drunk driver
Discussion
Once again a tragic story over the weekend, In Harwich Essex, a 18 year old girl walking home from a pub and along comes a 21 year old in the car with his mate both pi**ed out there heads and took a bend too fast hit the kerb at 80 MPH!!!! and hit the girl and killed her instantly and the car ended up through a bay window of a house but get this!!! the 2 wan***ers both jumped out the car and ran for it luckily they where both caught ( mainly the driver) so a few questions how can any bar staff allow a young person to get totally hammered in a pub? apparantly he had to be helped out of the pub he was that pi**ed, and how could his supposed best mate allow him to get behind the wheel of his car and drive? this sort of story totally sickens me, lock up drunk drivers for life!!

Yes, but the government response is both entirely ineffective and misdirected. Speed does not kill people, dangerous driving kills people. Apart from the tolerance of a binge drinking culture in this country which is totally unacceptable, the good old boys in blue think that it is good use of their time to stand around in cunning little spots where they can catch people speeding, whereas instead of throwing their often excessive weight around with little old ladies and the like, they should be lifting people like this and kicking the s

You can drink as much as you like as long as you don't go over a limit. This allows for all sorts of stuff that has alcohol in it. Stuff like medicines, mouthwash, acne cream, perfume, ripe bannanas, posh chocs or a sip of communion wine.
The simple fact is that the current law is very sensible. It allows for all that, which endangers absolutely nobody, but has a limit that makes any significant intoxication illegal.
There is absolutely no evidence that lowering the limits will make any difference. All that will happen is that people who break the law will still break the law while people who are no danger to anyone but have somehow got a trace of alcohol in them will be banned or imprisoned for no reason whatsoever.

Government response is to consider lower drink-drive limits.
Obvious really.
I'm not aware the government is considering dropping the limits either in response to this or anything else. Do you have a reference?Obvious really.

Leave the law as it is, on this subject anyhow.
Best wishes all,
Dave.

the government need to return to "manual" policing,ie: more patrols and less reliance on automated methods of catching criminals ie: speed cameras... apparently since we have increased our speed cameras as a method of catching "criminals".. our drink drive casulaties have increased substantially!
A client was putting his children in the back of his car, so the back door was open to the road.Along comes garyboy at speed, he hits the open rear door as the client leaps into the car.Garyboy rips off the door and stops up the road, the children are screaming and crying, the client is in shock . Garyboy looks back and DRIVES OFF. Client gets the number, gives it to the Police and this was their response
" The car was from the met area and they are too busy for further enquiries. I suggest you claim off your insurance"
Justice, morals, respect, care, thoughtfulness, neighbourly help now take second place to greed, selfishness, crime, hate, jealousy and fraud .Thankyou Mr Brown for liquidating my Country.

Pisses me off these stories
It's frightening how many people are willing to risk it. Four of us on Thusday night had to literally drag one of our mates away from his car because he'd had far too much to drink. Fortunately i was sober and had my car so promptly dumped him at home.
If you kill someone whilst ruined at the wheel of a car, it should be murder, no less.

You simple minded fool. Hearing views of people like you actually makes me realise we are quite lucky that we have these current idiots in power, at least they have managed to retain some semblance of reality - did you get an education? I think education is clearly more of an issue in this country than drink driving. muppet. no drinking and driving, licence removed for life + 5 years jail, if you injure someone 10 years jail, you kill someone life in jail, life must mean life, only way out is in a box

I agree that drinking and driving is madness and it's awful that people get killed because of it. However, suggesting that extreme measures such as this is not the answer. There is no simple solution. That guy was drunk and will go to jail anyway, he knew that before he got in the car - it didn't stop him. You can't stop an idiot no matter what you.
Some of the sentences handed out to these killers really do cheapen their victims lifes. I mean if my child was killed by a drunk and after going through all the stress involved with a trial, they end up getting 3 years and are released after 2 (probably whilst giving the camera the birdy) I would feel like exacting out a bit of my own justice.
As to the point of why his mate let him get into the car drunk. To any normal law abiding person the solution is simple, but to fully understand why he let his mate drive in that state and also why he consented to be driven by someone in that state you would have to be inside the mind of such people, and that is probably a very frightening place to be.
