My company car is due for replacing, and I need something with a 2000kg towing capacity for the works trailer.
I've been looking at several Sports Tourers, and Coupe's, but can't find anything with a 2ton capacity, so moved on to look at SUV's, can't buy a Discovery 4 that I'd really like as it puts the Company Car Tax sky high!

So far the cars I like are the new Subaru Forester with the 2.0L Boxer Diesel(Nice but concered about the engine, performance, noise etc), the Ford Kuga(nice but felt a bit cheap), or the VW Tiguan(new RLine with 170hp due out in a couple of weeks, but cost over £30k when I spec it up!)
Whats your views on these cars, especially the Subaru Forester?

Also what car would you recommend for me to tow 2tons, I would prefer sometning a bit sportier.

All advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I love Foresters, see some of my recent posts, however for regularly towing 2000kg, I wouldn't reccomend it. I've pulled trailers up to and probably over the reccomended limit for the car, and it's not that great. I think you're into proper 4x4 teritory there really.

That said, you might be talking about the new model of Forester, I don't have any experience of them.

I have however driven the boxer diesel engine, and liked it a lot. Again though, it might be enough for occasional 2000kg towing, but I don't think it would be enough to do it regularly.

Cheers,

FT.

Definitely check manufacturers recommendations regarding towing limits... and don't exceed them.
Of the vehicles listed and if it was my money on the line, I'd go with the Forester.

Thanks guys, IT IS the NEW Forester I am talking about.

I will visit the garage at the weekend and request a test drive, I will probably ask for an estended test drive, which I'm sure the dealer will give me, as a they know me, I bought a WRX from them a few years ago.

Any more info on the Forester or Boxer Diesel is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Nice suggestion.

Only problem is the Company Car tax would be £441 a month agains't the £250 I am currently paying at the moment, for the top of the range 2.2Diesel Accord tourer. The Forester would take my tax to £350 a month which I think is bad enough!!

The new VW Tiguan R Line is due out next month and pretty reasonable on CC tax.
It has a 2.0L TDI with 170PS and a towing capacity of 2200kg, for under £30k.
Not sure I like the vehicle, though I'm sure I'd soon warm to it!

I can go used, but CC Tax still applies to the new price, so if i bought a 3 year old car, I'd have to pay tax on the price it was when it was new!!

Actually been looking at the new RX450h, due out in July, I have a dealer putting some figures together for me at the moment, but its only 2000kg tow weight, which will do, and it got a purchase price of £45k for the mid range one which is maybe a bit much to spend when business isn't exactly great at the moment.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Cheers
