afternoon all.

I have a problem with the 540, hoping someone can enlighten me to the cause. its running fine but when pulling up to stop at lights etc, and the revs drop to idle (in or out of gear) the car simply cuts out (engine turns off). I have found that when I switch the air conditioning on, and obviously the revs rise, that the car no longer cuts out when idle.

at first i thought maybe the fuel pump was on the way out, but maybe theres an idle screw or something that i can adjust (or is that way too simple, and theres no way my BMW would be anything like my old mk4 cortina!)....

over to you guys, many thanks nerf....

I believe this is the camshaft sensors. Mine has started to do the same, and I have already changed one (changing the second this weekend)

What he said. Both of mine managed to die with in a very short space of time (both changed simultaneously in the end) prior to which the symptoms (low-revs cutting out) were very similar.

As the others have said yes
I've got the same fault, online searches diagnosed as above & then a fault code reading called up
Code 113 Camshaft position sensor signal Bank 1
It's item 12 , one per bank.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=DN51...

cheapest I've found is
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

I should be getting a BMW trade price tomorrow, I'll post price when I get it.

EDIT, I should add the a wiring fault to the sensor is the same, a chaffed wire is a possibility so need to check the sensor for 12v before replacing.
