After reading this thread, ive decided i'm going to try a traditional double edge safety razor. The razor that was recommended as a cheaper alternative to a Murkur Futur was a Edwin Jagger for £20. I noticed this isn't an adjustable razor, so my question for the safety razor afficionadoes is:

a) is the 'aggresiveness' of the Jagger DE suitable for a beginner to single blade safety razors
b) is there anything more suitable, or a decent adjustable one, that I should buy instead thats less than £30?

cheers

That one looks pretty good to me. Have you looked at that badger botherers site that Bedford Rascal refers to in the other thread?

Definetly have a look on the B&B forum.

I've only just got into safety razors. I bought the merkur HD long handle. I flippin love it! Shave is pretty smooth and it's getting better every time. I'm now using feather blades and i don't think i'll be changing! I tired a mixed pack, so tried Derby, Merkur, some Israli brand and the Feather - they are the sharpest and they fell the smoothest.

Make sure you buy some decent shaving soap, i got some Mitchel's Woll fat soap and my skin's never felt as good (before that i used Clinique shaving cream at £22 a pop!).

I looked at the EJ but found them expensive compared to the Merkur although i haven't tried the EJ i picked one up in a shop and the weight of the Merkur was better for me. I also got a long handle which i felt was better also.
