In the process of ordering a replacement exhaust for my car. Was going to go the de cat route but I'm told that some tracks plan to introduce emmissions testing as part of scrutineering. I know that cats are now compulsory in competition but has anyone else heard any word of them being compulsory on regular trackdays anytime soon?

Yeah Ted, at Knockhill "scrutineering" amounts to filling in a form to say your car is all ok.

When I was at Oulton a couple years back they did actually have a poke round the cars & do noise testing etc. Is this unusual? So far thats the only tracks I've been to.

I've heard nothing for emmissions on track days. Racing I believe they have said you need to have a cat depending on the "age" of the car. Track days it's just a noise test you have to pass and a form saying your car is safe etc

I'm not aware of that for track days (although its possible) but the MSA have just made it compulsary for all competition cars manufactured after a certain date to have cats I believe.

Not a problem for track days, but it does mean you need one for sprints or even auto tests. Whether or not they'd bother to check at a club event remains to be seen, but technically...

I have never had anyone test the emissions on my cars on track days - the only thing tested is noise, and that's the standard half-metre at 45 degrees from the exhaust pipes for a front-engined car.

Obviously the car would have to be road-worthy, i.e. it should have a valid MOT or pass scrutineering under current MSA regulations - TDOs all tend to put something down in the booking confirmation or on their website.
