Currently organising a stag weekend in Minehead in July and considering nightlife options.

Does anyone know what there is, and whether it's worth staying in town or venturing further afield? And if so, where?

The place is a dive.

There are a few pubs and a nice Indian on The Ave.

Minehead's alright, but a bit over-run with Stag parties at the weekends wink

Probably best bet is to stay in Butlins for a good laugh, and venture into town. There's not much in the way of nightclubs but a lot of the newer bars are late opening.

Mambo on the seafront has recently opened, and has a late licence and generally DJs at the weekend- A lot of people I know rate it. I think it has a "club" bit but I haven't been in.

Further up into town, there's The York bar which, IMHO, is a little ste but they do have DJs at the weekend. Next is the Hairy Dog, which is great- Huge, open all day and everything you want in a pub.

After various rowdiness problems the Wellington in the centre of town is now a Wetherspoon, it's lost the club upstairs for the time being though...

Cream is a bit trendier, more of a cafe/bar but opens late and a good crowd in there.

There is nowhere else to venture, really. If you're there for a weekend there are plenty of options. If you're staying in Minehead the only nightlife which will be "better" is Taunton, 25miles away. Not really worth it for a couple of extra venues.

ETA- The Alcombe Tandoori is excellent. Quick taxi ride from the Centre. Book. Now! I've never rated provincial Indians before but this one's worth it.

We're already booked to stay at Butlins and we're taking part in a beach football competition, so really just looking at nightlife/curry options.

Any karting nearby?

Oi, I grew up there and the family still live there. The town is not all that bad, but it is true that it is not strong on nightlife.

Butlins I guess is lively, if nothing else, but as an ex-resident I grew up disliking the place, other than the endless supply of pi$$ed, willing girlies (if I recall). Not the sort I would take home to introduce to the family though!

I've been there loads of times and the town itself is quite nice, the Hairy Dog is ok for Steak and Chips and the ice cream shops are good!

Butlins is undoubtedly a chavs playground and the girls appeared to have STD's dripping from them hurl you have my sympathies growing up there.

On the plus side the surrounding area is lovely, Porlock hill and Toll road are fantastic as are the forests and moorland roads! driving Dunster may also be my favouritist place in the world ever (except they get upset when we drive rally cars through their village hehe)
