HELP! - Need track day cover for the ring
Discussion
I think the current method of choice is to install one of these on the dashboard....

and hope you dont hit anyone!
or I guess if you trim your steering wheel with rosary beads that might also work....
Seriously... I think unless an insurance explictly excludes the ring by name in the paperwork then they will provide the minimum 3rd party covered as required by law. However if you make a claim on it then they will recover the full value of the claim back from you.

Bear in mind its not a trackday, so trackday cover may not actually be all that useful. Apart from anything else TD cover does not include third party which is rather essential (not to say a legal requirement) at the 'ring on a TF day.
Ok to be clear. I'm looking for insurance to cover me for when I'm on the 'ring at the weekend. So the question is who actually does have cover when on the ring if so many UK insurance companies are excluding it?
This regularly gets discussed, most recently here:

The general concensus is that almost no UK insurance companies will cover you for TF at the Ring, ergo most Brits at the Ring go there uninsured, even if they think they are covered. Those few that say they do definitely have cover, in writing, are playing their cards very close to their chests.

Yip. I've spent the best part of today phoning around looking for quotes. Even taking out annual cover. All companies I've spoken to are excluding the ring for TF days.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

So who has 3rd party cover?
Is it really worth the risk of trashing your P&J?
I'm waiting on a quote back from MIS for accidental damage cover for the full value of the car and also upto £20Ks worth.
I may even decide not to go as I don't want to drive all that distance and not enjoy the track in my own car.
Alternatively, I'm wondering if it's possible to get cover via a German insurer but can't find much on the web yet.

Yep, I even had one tell me they would on the phone (in a roundabout sort of a way I didn't mention the 'N' word) only to see it was actually excluded in the policy note. The only thing I can think of is some specialist insurers include trackday cover for a fee, or even part of their policy IIRC in one case, so even though it's not strictly a track day, maybe these people would be more accomodating?
I guess the 'Ring has the potential to produce some huge claims. If you drop some oil in an old banger and cause someone to clip a curb in normal road use, the chances are the guy behind isn't doing 150mph in a GT3 RS, on a TF day things could be different...
I assume i'm covered as the 'ring isn't specifically excluded in my policy (and therefore EU law provides me with a minimum of 3rd Party Cover). I have no intention of asking my insurer whether I definitely am and therefore drive well within my limits.
I believe there is a case going through the Ombudsman at the moment that should clear all this up (but probably won't be the answer we all want!).

Thats how I roll as well...
To the original OP. Don't NOT go because you are not insured... live life I say!
when i spoke to bell.co.uk they said there were no restrictions in germany i did ask about the ring but the guy just said there is def no restrictions, i do not have this in writing though so i still am not 100percent. this was on a green card cover i went for the cheaper insurance which didnt have european cover included. i think it was 15pound a week extra when i called them up for it. anyone know for sure if bell do insure at the ring? i might of just got a numpty.
Just go over and have fun. Usual TF day rules...1. dont drive like a tw*t. 2. Dont try to shave 1.3 seconds off your best time then get annoyed/overly agressive when Mr tourist doesn't see you and doesn't jump immediately out of your way. .3. Do have muchos funos and spend some time at a great viewpoint watching others doing the first 2 things.
5. Drive your p&j home again.
Happy days.

Bell are part of the Admiral Group and they specifically exclude the ring on my '08 - '09 Bell and Admiral certificates with an exclusion clause... "the policy does not cover...Use on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, ..."Anyway, I used Moris and the website looks down for upgrading rather than ceasing offering the insurance "We are so sorry for any inconvenience but we are temporarily suspending this service for upgrades to our Internet system. This is a frustration to every one and we apologise but could you please bear with us......."
Thus I'm assuming they will still quote. I was also told by someone in the know their premium / payout figures (£'s & ratio) and based on that they'll continue!!!
In late April I used a combination of Moris and trackcover.com but can't get the latter website up now.

Bear in mind that it's not just the loss of your car you need to consider but also potential compensation to third parties for loss or injury, and to the 'ring operators for repairs and track closure time.
ETA: ringing round insurers asking the question won't get you far, and won't make you popular with some regular ringers either. You might as well ring them up and shout "VOLDEMORT" down the line to see what reaction you get.

That's basically what I did - except it was one of Bell's sister companies (Elephant IIRC) and having been assured there were no restrictions I looked in the small print and along with racing, time trials, trackdays etc. was 'any use of the Nuburgring Nordchleife' or words to that effect.I really wouldn't stack any hopes on UK insurers unless they're very specialist brokers who already go out of their way for track days and so on. It's just not worth it. You miay be morally in the right, but they can afford better lawyers than you can.

Well tough if the "regular ringers" aren't happy with me seeking out an insurance company that will cover me. Anyway, I've tried every UK insurance company I can possibly think of and they do not offer cover, in fact all are excluding it in their policy wording.
I therefore do not see how any UK car will be insured for TF days.
As a previous posted mentioned, a huge majority of people will be on the ring and not insured.
