just had a strange thing happen, drove from ashford to maidstone, then about 2miles from home hit traffic, stop start for about 20min. sat at lights engine protected flash up then eng just cut out, tryed to restart but nothing everything dead, left it for 20secs tryed again. started but would not rev , then revs started hunting and cut out again... turn key again and she fired up fine no probs.. had my car since new and its never done any thing wrong till this. drove for 2more miles all fine ??? any ideas

just had it serviced and full exhurst system fitted from manifold all way back, 2 weeks ago

Possibly throttle body sensor failure. Mine was exactly the same and kept cutting out and later re-starting after a wait or locking/unlocking. Problem persisted quite randomly until I just had a new throttle body fitted, (you can't replace just the sensor)..and problem solved. Apparently quite a few are starting to get this problem.

you can get an odbii reader for the car, obviously efi live but there are cheaper scan units that are compatible with the bus used on these cars.

Check on ls1.com.au for recommendations. Could be anything, could be MAF fail, could be O2, could be TPS, could be ETC, could be anything but it will have provided codes and it will have provided freeze frame history.

which car do you have (CBA looking at provile), I think the LSx uses CAN bus but dont quote me, Roger probably will know or Richard. I got a scanner for my old 350z for 20 quid off ebay but it uses a different protocol to the gm range

Dont drive the car anywhere, hopefully youve got AA membership, call the AA out and the patrol will plug in his diagnostic laptop and read the fault codes, he will also be able to check most of the major components through the "live readings" window. The ECU's on these cars give the most info ive ever seen on OBD.

When I had the AA to mine a couple of months back his diagnostic laptop couldn't access the car's fault codes. I think Roger (Monkfish gave me answer as to why but can't find the topic just at the mo)

there are different protocols used, some manufacturers use one, others another.

Do you mean "performance safety mode"? Ive never seen any display that says engine protect mode.
