SLK 32 AMG WHEEL BOLT LENGTH?????
Discussion
Can I draw of your experience, I wanted to replace the rusty zinc plated wheel bolts on my car, std SLK32 AMG alloys, and bought a set via e bay from a guy in Germany - these have a stainless steel head insert and are genuine MB & V nice. Both the old and new bolts Have a shank length of 40mm (app 20 plain & 20 thread) when measured from the base of the seating cup/cone - the issue is that, to my mind at least, not a lot of thread engages with the hub I would estimate about 8 to 10mm. I even bought a single "SLK 32 bolt" from MB as a reference and its just the same length so I guess its all ok, but I still feel a little uncomfortable about it, the prospect of losing a wheel makes my A**E pucker up! - your knowledge & experience appreciated. Thanks
I also have an slk32amg and he has rusty studs like yours, i solved the problem by cleaning them up with a wire brush and buying some plastic chrome sleeves from an ebay seller based in guernsey which just push fit over original stud and look the part. It helps to apply grease to the studs before fixing. Should cure the puckering complaint too!
