what is too much to expect from a bodyshop?

hi, i had some bodywork done on my car a couple of years ago due to some idiot in a carpark denting the rear quarter and passenger door.
i had the damage fixed by a local bodyshop but when i went to collect the car i could see ripples in the paint where the dent used to be, they told me it was "within their tolerances" and went about guaging the paint (the dents were pulled out rather than the panles being replaced), anyway i kicked up a bit of a fuss and they took the car back to do again.
picked up the car and the same things were noticeable although this time with other imperfections in the paint, anyway after a bit of an argument i left with the car as i just wanted to drive it as it was basically brand new.
the company offer a lifetime guarantee on their jobs, but now time has come for me to sell the car. i have had a few viewings and everyone loves the car which in every other way is mint but are pointing out where the repair was done and therefore i have not managed to sell the car (looks as though any filler has sunk along with the other blemishes along the panel).
where do i stand? is there a vehicle ombudsman to seek if the work is keeping me from selling the car?
as far as i am concerned i paid for the damage to be repaired back to "as new standard" but this has not happened.
i have contacted the company although the work was done almost 2 years ago and they are going to have someone look at the car but i wanted to know where i stand.
am i expecting too much? or should an accident repair be close to flawless? thanks

My first plan of attack would be to see if they are a member of the VBRA www.vbra.co.uk
If they are, have a read up on the 'Code of Practice'.

Yip, VBRA is who you need, that is if they are registered with them. Although its a fairly protracted affair they will help you. If they are not part of the organisation I would imagine it would be up to what sort of business sence the company in question have.
