Took the rear hood section from my chimaera to A trimming company at Bristol for a new rear screen and some re-stitching. The screen was ok but badly scratched. Was quoted £225 for new screen plus vat. Waited 5 weeks for it to be done and when collected they had just re-stitched around the old screen. said it would be £395 for a new screen to be fitted. Can buy new for £400. What a rip off!!

I've been ripped off exactly like that by a back street spray painter.

Bumped my old cossie front bumper years ago and took it to this sprayer and he verbally quoted me £400 for the repairs and the spraying of the bumper.

When i went to pick it up, he said the bill was £520, claiming that the £400 did not include the repairs and the cost of the paint. I regret it to this day as it was a bit yobbish, but i ended up pinning him up against the wall after a heated discussion and i was so angry i just took the car away and never paid.

You live and learn, now when ever i get a quote from anywhere and for anything, I ALWAYS force them to write down in full what has been quoted and the price clearly stated.

You can get scratches out of your perspex hood screen with a judicious use of duraglit

Although I think duraglit (and brasso) are very light abrasives so they will wear the screen thickness down - you might only be able to do this a few times.

Renovo do a screen cleaner - it works suprisingly well.

I last did mine a couple of years ago but got interrupted by my neighbour while it was drying so I nearly had to scrape the damn stuff off.
Coincidentally, I was planning to do mien again tomorrow.

V8GRF also uses some liquid that keeps the screen supple but maybe not so necessary now that the warmer weather is here.

thanks for all your comments. The hood came back in a bit of a state. slight tear and not glued very well at the top where it meets the centre panel. Altogether a right botched job.
