Hello watch people wavey, my elderly Nan has decided that she would like a few of her watches repaired and before I saw it she and my Grandad kept referring to the 'Rolex' that he had bought for her in 1946 from Dobbies Ltd. in Nairobi. When my Nan handed it to me I could barely make out the name on the watch as it is tiny but it said 'Tudor' on the top of the face with the name of the supply house at the bottom. This watch is tiny and the lettering was difficult to make out with the naked eye. My Grandad insists that it was sent back to Rolex some years ago for a service and a new strap but I seem to remember reading somewhere once that the mechanism used in the Tudor watch was made by Rolex but I probably have this arse about face. Hopefully one of you on here may be able to enlighten me?, thanks in advance.

Your Gran is not completely wrong (bless her!).

I'm sure google will explain all, but Tudor is part of the Rolex family, also known as "Rolex Tudor" and marketed as a cheaper, more accessible brand. Many of the watch models are based on similar Rolex models, but use cheaper quality parts, movements etc.

They were all in-house originally. More recently theyve used ETA movements but still with a Rolex case.
