I've set up off the pier for the Red Arrows show a couple of years ago although I believe there is now a larger exclusion zone in place. For 2008 the exclusion zone extended 200 metres out from the beach and 1km along the see front, between Bournemouth and Boscombe Piers.
It used to be chaotic when it was just the Reds - as the display finished, the boats would shoot of in all direction at great speed! A lot calmer now!

It's about 1.5 miles between those two piers - however 200 meters out from the beach is roughly at the end of the pier....
