Where to buy a Tag Carrera
Discussion
I'm not a snob either way really but appreciate both brand for their own reasone.
Heuer was originally set up in 1860 by Edouard Heuer who ran the company and in the 30's he produced the first of the iconic watches, the Autavia. In the 40's 50's and 60's he was responsible for creating many more of the brands iconic watches like the Carreras, Monacos, Camaro, Silverstone, Monza and the more elegant ranges like the Dato 12's etc etc.
In the 80's, Heuer was bought out by TAG or "Techniques d'Avant Garde" who had nothing to do with watch making and bought Heuer purely as a financial investment. This is what gave the new company Tagheuer, a bad reputation amongst watch lovers.
Initially Tag killed off all of the lovely ranges and started with their own new direction, but soon after in the 90's they started to realise that they had alienated their original customer base so they started to launch re-editions of their iconic watches under the Heuer logo only.
The Carrera I have is actually a 1964 Re-edition bought new in 2002, so it is really a Tag (hence me not being a snob!) But I must say that the original watch from the 60's are a bit more special than todays watches.
HTH.

www.swisswatchesdirect.co.uk have the Carrera you're after for £980/1000 depending on payment method. I've never used them, but the website seems fairly respectable ...
