Noisy Gear Knob

Has anyone else had a problem with a noisy / rattling gear knob? The knob isnt loose but there is a definite rattle under acceleration (sounds like a trapped bee).

Holding the (gear) knob stops the noise, could it be the linkage or gearbox mountings?

I am quite worried that you are holding your nob when you should be concerntrating on the road.
Maybe your passanger could help.
