Hi

I recently bought a second hand 1/10th electric blackfoot xtreme which had already been assembled, but never used. It was running fine, but now seems to be 'slipping' (not losing traction) when it initially accelerates from a standstill if that makes sense? I was wondering if it was the gearbox, or even the bearings? Anyone else come across this problem previously?

Cheers

Check the motor pinion is meshed correctly with the spur and that it isn't slipping on the motor shaft

Is that the same gearbox as the monster beetle??

If it is, they were always prone to splitting apart. Glue the casings together and it should be ok, but rebuild it first, replace the bearings with metal ones, and use a glue that you can remove later, or use double sided tape- i did and it never happened again.

Also check that the tyres aren't slipping as the power is transferred to the wheels. A little bit of superglue (just a couple of drops so you can get them off again) will stop this from happening.

Cheers for the responses. Some handy tips!

Funnily enough, the noise started after I had swapped the tyres from the front rims, to the rear rims. I just checked the fitment, and the tyres were easy on the rim, so I'll try a dab of super glue on them first before taking the gearbox apart if it doesn't work. Thanks!

Well, I've had a good few months without any issues. Plenty of jumps and stuff and all has been fine... until last week however...

I knew I should have bought it in kit form and built it myself rather than someone else's shelf queen... I now have a click when turning the front wheels left and right (can see it in the steering as well). A friend tells me this is the servo. Is this correct? Is it a case of having to order a new one, and if so where from? Sorry am a real newbie with this.

Thanks with all your help to date!

Cheers

I would guess that it has stripped some of the teeth off a cog inside the servo.
Fairly common as they are plastic.
Should get one easily off eBay, local model shop. About a tenner if not a lot less- niot looked recently.

If it is the servo it clicks when it goes past the broken teeth, and the steering will be jerky around that point- the point it clicks at.

No great worries though- easily fixed

Disconnect the tie-rods from the servo saver and move the servo by hand (make sue the electrics are off). If it feels knackered (ie: not the same feeling at all times) replace, if not, problem is elsewhere.
