Hello All
Just a few more questions from a relatively new newby
Handbrake cable (broken) looks a nightmare having ready workshop manual. Exhaust and propshaft have o come off. Have found a specialist in Bergamo who is going to look at it for me
Few more little things - can you put my mind at rest:
- when I move the car after a couple of weeks of not using it, I seem to have a few drops of oil leaking from:
a) rear diff (can I live with it or is a big problem? literally a few drips but always there
b) engine/gearbox looks more like its coming from towards back of engine - again "do they all do that"??
c) sometimes difficult to get into 2nd gear properly when changing down from 3rd to 2nd - needs a good push to avoid crunching. No issues going up the gears (ie 1st to 2nd) and no issues in other gears either up or down. Any idea? Does it sound expensive!!
Cheers
Simon

The engine/gearbox oil leak could be your clutch slave cylinder leaking fluid, hence your notchy gear changes. Check your clutch fluid reservoir, its on drivers side inner wing, you'll have to take off the panel under the windowscreen( only two small bolts) to see it, under the round cover held on by silicon.
As for your diff oil leak, I'd ignore that small amount, just top up the level now and again.
Are you sure your handbrake cable has snapped? It could be the plastic adjuster nut has slipped, mine did and I thought the cable had snapped. Its just above the prop shaft, diff end. You can just get your hands in there without removing anything.

If the Diff is leaking from the front, from the input seal; it might be worth changing the seal while you have the exhaust and the prop off. I had a small leak from there and every time I stopped somewhere I had the smell of burning oil from the exhaust. Also, it isn't that easy to top up the diff!
I changed this seal the other week and most of the time taken was getting the exhaust and propshaft off to get access.

Hi all
Right, just went down to the garage and prised black cover off
Undid the reservoir and it was absolutely brimmed to the top. SO not leaking there then! Good news I hope
Must be an oil leak coming from engine somewhere or whatabout GEARBOX OIL LEAK?? Could that be making it difficult to change from 3rd to 2nd?? How do you check level and how do you top up??
Off to friendly mechanic tomorrow to put up on ramp and have a look at handbrake situation
Cheers

could be leaking from where the dipstick guide tube is bolted to the sump, drivers side back corner visible when under the car.
I doubt it would be a gear box leak, as this would be far back and leak from the join to the bell housing. if it were to leak it would either come from the drain hole or the output seal and that are pretty central when looking at the car from the side.
your best bet is to slide some car board under ther tonight then jack it up and crawl under and have a peak. it sholdn't be to hard to spot, take a torch under there with you.
also check the roccker cover on the inside of the V as prior to me taking my engine out i had a slight drip from there which took me a while to find.
