There is currently an email doing the rounds saying that the info signs on the M6, M62 and various other motorways in the North West have now been switched on, and have been linked in to a Specs system. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it a hoax?

There are SPECs cameras in the roadworks south of Hellwall on the M6 too, don't know if they're active or not though.

Southbound on the M6 the cops have a habit of waiting on the overbridge at J20 just after you come out of the Thelwall roadworks and proceed round the bend, which if your porking it could see you at illegal speeds such as 71mph

Best to wait for full veiw of this first before engaging afterburners.

The only SPECS on M6 are at the Threllwall viaduct roadworks - The signs is the same hoax that plagued the M4 and M27

Not only through the 40mph Thelwall Viaduct, but also through the roadworks between J19 & J20 north/south (50mph).

This is in response to the email doing the rounds.....

The following email is sent on behalf of Chief Inspector Val Prince, Lancashire Constabulary's Head of Road Safety to scotch a rumour that is doing the rounds on the internet suggesting there are hidden speed cameras on the M6. There are no SPECS cameras in Lancashire. There are, however, very visible, clearly marked SPECS cameras on the Thelwall viaduct where significant repair work is being carried out on the bridge. There are no speed cameras hidden in any signs.

Neither the ones at the Thelwall Viaduct nor those between Sandbach & Knutsford are hidden - they are just cleverly camoflaged against backgrounds such as trees, gantry signs and matrix signs.

Also as both the Thelwall Viaduct and Sandbach/Knutsford are in Cheshire, the e-mail is right in saying there are no hidden cameras on their stretch of the M6.
