How much oil does your Griff use?

just picked up my latest Griff and after a 120 mile drive home, noticed the oil level had dropped. Admitedly, the engine had only done 400 miles since a complete rebuild but looks like its used about 1/4 on the journey home.

Is that acceptable? What do others consume/

I thinks its fair to say on average anywhere between 600 to 1000miles per litre.

It will probably depend on the oil.
Use the recommended Mobil1 and it will use more oil than the 10/40 or thicker some of us use.

I don't think mine uses anything like 1 litre for a thousand miles

Had mine for 4 years, and average about 3k a year (34k total now).

Uses less than 1/2 litre every 3k, and I am still amazed how clear the oil is when it's dropped.

Started off using Mobil 1, then switched to Silkolene from Opie.

Me too been using Silkolene 10/50 now for a while and uses far less than Mobil 1 plus sounds healthier...and better on cold start ups

OK thanks all. Mines running mobil 1, so maybe that's why it seems to be using a bit.

Might make the change to Silkolene when i change the oil next

I bought 2 x 5 litres of oil hen i got my griff a year last feb, with 2 oil changes aside, the cars still on its first container with only 3500 miles more on it!

Mine uses about a pint every 800-1000 miles on Mobil 1 15/50

Also run Mobil 1 15W50, and now seems to average about 1L per 1000m. Used to use the same when I first got it around 15 years ago, then went for a couple of years using almost double (and yes, it was still 15W50), before returning to the above figures. Strange, but then it is a TVR!

Hmmmmm, must admit, when i had to top it up, I put a litre of Mobil 1 in it but could only get the 0/40 stuff.

The engine is being run in and I can see blue smoke when i blip the throttle . I've not done more than 30 miles since the top up, so will drain and change the oil to a viscosity that's more appropriate.

Would topping up with a litre of thin oil in a fairly fresh engine create a bit of blue smoke?

Mine's weird. It doesn't use much oil at all - less than 1/4 a litre in 6k miles. Water on the other hand is much more difficult to keep in the engine...

Agree with DNB... my car at 44K uses no oil... but water... drops 10mm every 200 miles or so??
