If you're spending a five-figure sum of your own hard-earned cash then I reckon you're entitled to be bit fussy. Colour IS important to me, especially on TVRs. Some colours look great, others don't, and I think it's worth holding out a while for what you want.

However, you're right in that when buying second-hand you can only choose from what's on sale, so it might be a good idea to have a second colour as reserve. As well as outside colour, inside colour is important too, esp in a TVR where hopefully the roof will be off much of the time. So you've got to like the inside too, and it's got to go with the outside. You've also got to take condition into account - you might see a car which isn't quite what you thught you wanted but somehow everything fits into place.

When looking for my first Griff I wanted blue/magnolia. I looked at two but they were too tatty. Then I saw a silver/navy one and it just clicked. I wasn't really a fan of the navy intereior but it went with the silver. Two years later I got a silver/red one, which was almost exactly what I wanted. Now, if I was choosing again, I'd look for red/magnolia. Or how about Chamaeleon green?

Never really thought of the colour as a deal breaker, I always put greater store on a dealer I trusted saying it was a good car.

Having said that I did reject a Tuscan based on the fact that it was a really nasty pale green even though it was supposed to be a good car and as far as I know has proven to be so.

With Griffs there's a fair choice out there so I think you can be a little choosy. If I were buying today - I think my 17K would probably find its way to Apache, that's a really nice car...

Cheers

For all the 'condition condition condition' advice, it's no good having a car you don't actually like.

In my book, far better to buy a car you like, and budget to get a few things fixed, than buy one which is apparently perfect (then probably lets you down anyway) and over which you think everyone else's looks better.

For the record, I went to see 'my' car described as 'black with grey leather', and expected it to be reminiscent of a funeral parlour on a wet day in autmumn.
It turned out to be _metallic_ black with plum (that's this week's description - there are many others!) leather and looks great - in the flesh.

How about this?: Buy on condition, choose on colour... (the sort of thing my wife would say )

Condition.

I notice some of you have read between the lines already!
I guess Im never going to find good conditon AND the colours I want. After all there were only 250 Griffs built a year so there isnt going to be that much choice out there.

Just keep looking. It's not likely that you'll find your 'perfect' car but 90% right is OK. You'll either find it, or find something you like as much but didn't think of, or keep you money safe until you do.

When I sorted my wish list I did not care about colour.

Then I saw a red Griff with a black roof and said any colour exept red. (hated it)

Guess what colour mine is? (red with a black roof!)

Just look at each car and one will pick you. I had deceided to buy mine as soon as the covers were removed.

Each colour has different shades and looks good in some and not in others.

Funny thing - I went to look for an S3, no idea what colour I wanted.

Saw, no - was guided to by a certain disreputable secondhand TVR salesman! - a Black Griff...

...and the rest is history! nothing more and at the same time than a Henry Ford special...

You know it's the one when you see it parked on the seller's drive and you think 'I'm not leaving without it'!

Yet again I have to agree with Simpo two, and I'd like to add that the Griffith looks good in more colours than just about any other design.

Personally I wasn't too bothered with the colour of the car I bought, ok so there's a few colours that I didn't like when I saw them and I avoiding them but most were great, the Griff is a gorgeous looking car so colours didn't really bother me that much. It's performance you're buying after all.

I ended up buying a Blue with cream interior very similar to me previous S3, think the colours ace but then again so did alot of people judging by the amount of blue ones. As for colours, new owners are offered a multitude of colours so there's no reason why you should struggle to find a colour that you're after.

For the Money I was wanting to spend I didn't feel I could be too fussy on colour. As it happens the Griffith I got is a fantastic colour and I couldn't asked for better. Mind you at the end of the day it's your drooling onlookers who get the see the colour more than you...

I really, really wanted a Paris Blue one ever since my bro-in-law had one that colour. But I've never seen one in that colour since his was sold. As mines a 4ltr there wasnt so much choice (dark red, blue, green is usually about it!). I think they look pretty good in yellow but would never have the courage to buy one.

Planetdave knew I would buy, it as apparently whilst looking round it I was hopping from foot to foot.
Got very giddy and just said yes. I don't hink it would have mattered what it drove like.
I WAS HAVING THAT CAR!

All that buy with your head not your heart - out the window/roof.
