It seems that somehow overnight my Omega Speedmaster has died and just stopped working. It hasn't received any knocks or bangs, nor has it been submerged in water. Its about 4 years old for the record. Do I have to take it to an official Omega dealer to have it looked at, or will an indy do? Having just been made redundant and taking the daunting step of becoming a very mature student in Sept, I really dont need to be hit with any big bills at this moment in time. Any one have a rough ball park figure of repair cost (I know its difficult, not knowing the problem). As usual, thank you in advance guys. Jez

Had it been working fine before, just completely stopped? what model is it?
Hopefully someone may be able to give some proper advice, probably pretty hard to give a figure without knowing what's wrong with it!

Yup, watch has been completely fine until this morning, never a days trouble with it. It has completely stopped, stopwatch etc doesn't work, can adjust the time and the movement seems free as ever. Hasn't received any knocks or bangs. Its just a basic speedmaster (not a special edt), and is about 4 years old now.

His status as a "Graduate Member British Horological Institute" says all that you need to know.

Hopefully it'll be something simple and you can get it sorted!

Its an auto, and after giving it a vigorous jiggle it seems to be working again. So if it does it again or starts to keep bad time, then I will send it off.

£135 then. Id presumed that, as a Speedmaster, it was a manual wind chronograph. That price is for a complete strip, clean, fettle and re-build, so itll come back like new.

Sounds to me like it's in need of a proper cleaning. I wouldn't wait for things to go bad again before getting it cleaned. Others, am I correct that if he waits, there could be additional damage and things could get worse?

My Speedmaster is currently with Rytetime for a service. Worth a look as well.
