Thinking about going the LS1 route on my Nissan Skyline as i feel the engine is ultimately stronger and more tunable than the RB25 unti i have

I would want 400hp and 350+ft lbs with a view to going up to 600hp in the future

I know it will fit and weight wise they seem around the same

Any suggestions for ??

Gearbox

Engine suppliers

LS models pros/cons

I know its not a kit car;)

sounds like an ideal conversion to me, there a few RX7's converted to LS engines and it works really well. Exchange rate is not on your side at the moment though.

if you wanted to go a little nuts there was a drift car that ran a Twin truboed LS1 engined skyline. They used the GEN-TT twin turbo kit for the GTO/Manaro. also check out LS1tech.com. there might be a kit already.....

Awesome engines. Are you going to be doing all the conversion work yourself? if so good luck.

Might also be worth considering the Nissan VH/VK series V8s, strong engines which should mate up to your existing drivetrain.

Not staying Nissan as the drivetrain is to weak as well clutch and gearbox is problematic above 500hp i'm looking for 600ish hopefully so going with complete engine and 'box set up

Hopefully doing most of it myself , will need an auto electrician but already have contacts for the rest

did a bit of reading on it. should be a few about. not seen much on power pontencial though. but a turbocharged 5.xx ltr straight 6 (with Brian Crowers stroker kit) should have PLENTY of go! lol

Not worth it imo , i'm looking for 500-600hp if i fitted a RB26 my RB25 gearbox would struggle , RB26's spin bearings as a hobby , two turbos to buy a decent set up would cost £6-£8k at least, i could fit a LS for that , the only RB engine i would consider is the RB30 conversion but even those arent trouble free plus it would be £10k to do that and for that i reckon i could fit a blown LS1

TB48 is too expensive to tune

Cams for a TB48 = $700

Cams for a LS1 = $374

A stroker kit for a TB48 cost the same as a complete stroked bottom end for a LS

Most parts seem to follow this trend there is just more stuff available for the LS engines and the economy of scale drives the price down

Yes you are right, LS components are cheap. However if you have to spend another 5K on converting to the LS engine then that adds to the cost! wink

TB48 isnt going to be a straight swap is it , the cost of change is likely to be the same
