All, I wonder if you could proffer a bit of assistance to a mate of mine who's just bought a 98 S X308 3.2.

He's got two problems, both of which are potentially related:

1) The car is in valet mode but due to the key fob not working (or not having lost it's programming), he can't get it out of valet mode.
2) He now can't get in the boot due the above (even using the key).

I'm lead to believe that valet mode can be 'reset' by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, which would of course be great, if he had access to the boot.

Any assistance or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Tha manual locks on the boot lid are prone to siezing as nobody uses them. Spray some WD 40 into the key hole and gently turn the key clockwise and anti clockwise - you should feel the lock mechanism "catch" once the WD gets to work and you'll be able to unlock the boot. A few gentle thumps around the lock apeture may help too.

If you've lost the transmitter programming then fit new batteries into (up to 5) fobs and do this;

Hold headlight flasher back.
Turn ignition key to position 1
Flash headlights 4 times

Alarm will now enter programming mode - it will beep and the security led on the J gate surround will flash

Programme each transmitter by pressing the lock or unlock button on the transmitter once
Tha alarm will sound when you press the button.

However...The alarm must sound 5 times to complete the programming, therefore if you only have one transmitter, press the lock or unlock button 5 times, two transmitters have to have buttons pressed twice on one and three times on the other, 3 transmitters....oh go on you guess.

Thanks Steve.

We tried the flash 4 times thing earlier but the LED didn't flash or the car beep which was odd.

ETA: So the boot should open by using the black key even when it's in valet mode?

The black key should overide the valet mode. I'd peresvere with the WD 40 and see if you can get the boot to open manually.

I had great difficulty opening the boot manually for the first time. It finally opened when I applied a bit more force than I was comfortable with.
