Hi all, i've recently broken my hand, and my job requires both hands. So i figured since its summer, i'll crack on with fixing the rust on the rear arch and round the screen of my e36.

The rear arch isn't a problem, once i've found someone with 2 arms to remove the bumper for me. But the rust around the top of the windscreen is more of a problem, so i could really do with fixing it before it gets any worse.

Now, if bruce willis has tought me anything, i should be able to kick it out from the inside, but that'd be silly. So i was wondering what is (or was, 15 years ago) used to bond windscreens in?

And can i refit it myself, as someone whos generally mechanically apt and doesn't listen to adverts who say its dangerous to fit it yourself (much like they tell you not to fix your own brakes). What is the bonding agent used to fit them?

Cheers, Nick

Just the normal bonding stuff, I've tried to take a couple out of cars I was breaking for spares but never managed to without breaking them. New screens are only about £100 plus fitting (or you can get a lightweight heated motorsport one for about £200)

Good luck.

If you weren't so far, you could try and get one out of the car I'm breaking for bits.

Free of course!

thanks for the offer of free windscreenage, but yeah, distance can be a problem, especially when i'm not allowed to drive by law, apparently, with a cast on my hand frown
