Hi Guys,
Just thought I would show you all what I replaced the Monaro with (eventually!)
A Carbon Fibre edition XKR 4.2V8 with 400 bhp. Reminds me of the Ro at certain angles but totally different drive and doesn't lose traction when pushed due to 285's on the rear and a better traction system?

Can't find a decent Jaguar forum with such a nice bunch of guys and gals as you lot so hope you don't mind me popping in now and again?

Regards, Jeff.

Well I hope you get better service from yours than I did with mine. BTW 285's in no way make up for the lack of an LSD. (Single black lines only with those I'm afraid). Watch out for the gearbox seals and keep it inside when it rains, my two leaked like sieves. And when (hopefully you don't) get problems get ready for some of the greatest fairy tales ever written.

Great little motor though, when the ecu allows it.

Nice motor - super cool cool

Always liked them and was after an XJR/XKR myself for a while. Looks like it has a wheel/brake upgrade too ?

I must have been unlucky and got two dogs then?

Nice car. I had an xk8 convertible and it never leaked or let me down. There's a black 54 plate xkr in my local garage for 20k. It has 18k miles on the clock. Very tempting.

Thanks for the comments. I have heard of problems as mentioned but you get that with all cars (except Hondas!). Wheel/brake package standard on the Carbon edition - certainly stops! - and no leaks. Orkney weather will be a good test on the window seals no doubt.....

Jeff very nice, until a recent change in plans with regards to now building a studio at home we were looking at cars to replce the ro. There is absolutely nothing out there that comes close, no matter what the budget, but the Jag/Aston AMV8. Love the look of the xkr and love the new one even more, though if we have kids it has to be practical... what are the rear seats like wink

Stig, rear seats so so, the wife sat in the back and I jumped in the front and ther was not a lot of room for either of us. However she said if she was in the front then there would be plenty room for her!
Bob, yeah traded in the turbo for the deal, read your post re trade in values and yes they can offer lower than book, sell privately option doesn't work too good. Off to cyprus tomorrow for the handover of the apartment. Must catch up in July when the wife and I go out for our first stay!
Cheers,
Jeff.

When I was picking a car it came down to the XKR8 or Monaro. As quite a tall bloke I found the Jag quite claustrophobic, and it would be utterly useless for kids, IMO. Didn't have the charisma of the Monaro either.

That said, by the time I change the Monaro child 1 will be at University and I think a new XKR will definately be on the list again, looks much sharper than the old one IMO.

The new XKR is a good drive indeed but cheapest I could find for my limited resources was £39000. Once I have had my fun with the old model in 3 years time, they might just be affordable! I drove the XFR a couple of months ago on an open day and it was astonishingly quick! Maybe that might be the next model I go for??
Miss the Monaro though for the power slides as the XKR is just too grippy for my limits of push! Fuel consumption is a lot better though, averaged 26mpg on a 300 mile run to Glasgow compared to 22 with the Ro.
