I spent three days last weekend detailing my car, I really gave it the works, the best clean it has had this year. I clayed, cleansed, polished and waxed, and waxed again. then I did all the little things really thoroughly, all the bright work, interior etc. The car gleamed. Of course, it will get dirty again, but I don't mind that, just a regular wash and leather, and an occasional wax top up will be fine for several months to come.

One of the things that I spent so much time on, was getting rid of any light scratches and swirl marks, I spent a nine hour day just on that. I got the paint absolutely bloody perfect, then waxed. It was flawless.

Anyway, we went camping in North Wales this week, and we went in the Bentley, and yes, I knew it was going to get stted up again, but so what, cars are for using. The camp-site track was extremely dusty, and before long, the car had a thick uniform layer of dust all over it. No problem, it will all hose and wash off.

Camp site owner comes along "We've never had a Rolls Royce here before" and he starts to talk about the car, all fine and dandy. But then, WTF? "Oh yes, she's a real beauty" he says, as he lovingly puts his huge dirty great hand on the front O'S wing and caresses the paintwork, working his way along the full length of the top of the wing and back and forth along the bonnet, and up the 'A' post. He rubbed all that thick dust right into my flawless scratch free paint. I was just gutted, WTF did he have to go and do that for? But what could I say? he really didn't have a clue what he'd just done.

Mrs BG says I am being too precious about it, but I was bloody upset I can tell you. I mean, even if it is an ordinary car, or a banger, you don't go about rubbing cars like that when they are covered in a thick layer of dust do you?

So this weekend, I have had to cut those areas and wax again. The scratches he left behind were like it had been wire wooled. It's all OK now, but that's not the point is it? I am not the sort to have a 'DO NOT TOUCH' sign on the car, the car gets used, and used hard, but FFS!

that really pi**es me off that does. i'd have let him know what he'd done and explain what you needed to do to put it right.

yes i agree cars are for using and not always just looking at. but you don't go up to someone elses car and start rubbing your mitts all over it without asking first.

we will of course needs pics of how it looks all freshly detailed biggrin
