I put my S3 up in the classifieds yesterday. Within three hours I got a phone call from a local guy who'd just had his Chim written off and needed to get back into the fold. Less than 24 hours later I was on the verge of shedding a manly tear as the car drove off. Really regret selling it, but I couldn't turn such a beautiful machine into a track toy.

Of all the cars I've owned that's my favoutite to date and I hope it gives the new owner, John, as much pleasure. It also means the forthcoming Sylva/Caterham/Elise has got to be pretty fecking special not to dissapoint.

Don't joke. I've been half considering looking out for an old Tasmin Challenge car.

Okay, I was hamming it up a little on the first post, but I really do feel a little bit emotional. I've never developed such an attachment to a car before, and the people and the cars associated with TVR ownership have all been great. Alas cutting a nice shiny car like that apart for track mods wouldn't have done it any favours though.

Once I've got this out of my system, or once I have a bit more money and garage space, I'll be back I'm sure. Possibly for a V8 next time round ...or a T350 if I'm feeling rich ...or maybe a Tamora ...or a Griffith 500 ...or, well, you get the idea. I'd never buy anything purely for the badge, but TVR is the only marque where I'd go out and happily get one of each of them if funds allowed!

I am sure that my experience will not help one jot, but anyway... my first TVR was an S3C, bought in 1999 (so I am now a TVR owner for 10 years, gee whizz!). It was a bit of an experiment, "if I don't do it now then I never will" etc, it could have been a pain and cost but it proved to be exactly the opposite. It was a great car, I had many fun outings, Silverstone Classic etc camping with my then teenage son. I loved that car but something in the back of my head kept saying "at some point in your life you should have a V8" plus the fact (or excuse?) that the S3C was VERY low slung, and the village sprouted sleeping policemen everywhere. Anyway, it was changed for a Chimaera. When the Griffith was first Motor Shown it grabbed my attention, I thought it the best looking car since the Ferrari 250 GTO (quite an accolade!) but never thought that I might own one. I was really shopping for a Griffith when this lovely red Chimaera said "buy me!", and I did.
I never fully loved the Chimaera (but the neighbours were grateful that it was quieter) as I did the S3. Don't get me wrong, it went and sounded just like a V8 should, but somehow... Anyway, to cut a long story less long, I changed it for a red Griffith about 5 years ago, and it's WONDERFUL, the simple statement from my son that "it's go the same raw feel as the S3" said it all (but the neighbours have noticed the difference too!).
