Riding home on my bicycle, vehicle CA08VTN, a Vauxhall Zafira Exclusiv (MPV), dark blue (or grey) on Tuesday 26/05/2009 at aprox 14.06, forced me onto an unloading bus I was going to overtake, overtook elbow close with oncoming traffic and at speed. Tuesday was cloudy and very windy. Had to tense the body to avoid hitting the bus.

Bus was facing north on crwys road at bus stop between richard st and woodville road in Cardiff.

Rule 163 of Highway Code: Give vulnerable road users at least as much space as you would a car.

Further up the road he stopped at traffic lights, and with my arm dangling down I touched the passenger door with my knuckle to thank him for caring so much for me.

The lights turn green and car tooting with him screaming to pull over. I responded 'Assault me with the car again', which he pretty much did. Drove into me until his tyre hit the kerb which pushed me off the road and onto kerb.

Came out of the car, 6ft tall, 120+ kilos, strong build, white, short hair on sides, short spiky hair, white shorts and top, grabbed me by my right arm and dragged me towards the front of the car.

I asked him 'what was that with the bus' to which he replied he was flashed in.

Gave me a lot on nonsensical and moronic blah blah blah on how it was my fault that his kids were crying.

Since he knew immediately what he did but had his emotions going too hard to actually realize he didn't act well, and since I was already fed up, I put my hand measuring the distance between his face and mine and said that I wasn't deaf and that I could hear him really well.

He threatened to call the police, and I told him to bring them.

He then punched my right pectoral and took one step back. In disbelief, but ready to defend myself I lifted the bicycle of the ground which seemed to motivate him to get back into his car.

So there I am, arms appart, shaking my head in disbelief, asking what the hell was that.

Told his wife/gf that this was a great example for the kids, to which she dished out a lot of wannabe unfounded insults. Both shouting in the car.

I mount the bicycle and he tries to run me down with his car amd broke two spokes on my rear wheel.

I threw the bicycle on the floor as he's shouting some more out his window, so I got my face right in his number plate and red it out loud finishing with a thumbs up.

He joined the queue at the now red traffic lights, I took my cellphone and was going to take video as evidence, so while the light was still red he turned right and fled into Malefant St.

Have been considering reporting this to the police, but for some reason, I don't think they have interested in protecting me or getting compensation for a rear wheel.

There were a few heads peeking out of the shops.

Go back to those heads peeking out of the shops and ask around if someone from one of the shops saw what happened.

Then go to the police and report it as an assault, hopefully with a available witness statement (for them to take) as well, as this time you might have been lucky, but an tempered idiot like that doesn't belong on the road and might actually kill someone the next time.

You need to report it ASAP- even though Plod can be indifferent to it.
Might be your word against his (i'm sure he'll claim you threatened him) - BUT at least you'll have the satisfaction of this idiot being arrested.
If you have any injuries see your GP ASAP- medical report is crucial to your story

Report it as the guy has problems, although punch to the chest made me laugh, what is that all about?

Report him - chances are that it will go nowhere, but you never know.

This could so easily be written by you from hospital if him assaulting you with his car went differently.

I'm going past the spot today and will see if anyone in the shops witnessed any of this. Hopefully I'll have a name and number to give the police later today. You guys seem to all agree this needs to be reported.

Definitely report that. It's worrying how often you hear about people who are obviously in the wrong going on the offensive instead of apologising. It could have been a lot more serious though.

Report it. Regardless of what happened up to the assault, it was still assault. There might even be some CCTV cameras around so make sure you give an accurate account.

Personally, I'd have had a word with him when you had the chance rather than 'tapping' the passenger's door as you passed him. 99% of the time road rage like this is the result of an escalating situation.

True, but we all know how easily the red mist can descend under such circumstances. The OP did well to stay that reserved yes

Report him, To be fair id have been tempted to call the police at the time especially since the police station is only 5min up the road from where you were.

I very much doubt the guy only behaves like that toward cyclists, i bet he is a idiot with a attitude 24/7 and there will be a time when he lets his anger get out of hand, we dont need people like that around!!

Please, report it.
My dad and brother were both keen road race (club) cyclists in the past, so I sympathise completely.
Troule is there's a lot of idiots out there, riding around in the dark with no high-vis clothing or lights, who seem to think they don't need to stop at junctions and it's the car drivers responsibility to avoid hitting them, which clearly gives all of you guys a bad name (unfairly).
In a similar way thugs like the moron you have described will give all car drivers, unfair, bad reputations amongst the pedal powered, so please report him!
Timbo
PS. Hope it doesn't put you off riding in future

It hasn't put me off riding. I refuse to own a car.

Not for lack of qualifications according to the C+E on my license, but what do they know?

Report it, without a doubt.

Did you get any witnesses?

Other advice - avoid Cardiff. Actually just South Wales in general, the natives are scary.
