Dreaming of uprating my BOA V6 over the winter, so whilst my standard gearbox has stood up amazingly well to 3 years of abuse, it really will not handle a further increase in power. There are two solutions, one to fit an uprated and reconditioned Type 9 by BGH (but these are still limited) or ideally fit a T5, as used with the V8S.

Does anyone know if a T5 will fit in an S1 chassis? I know they are virtually identical, but the V8S is alledgedly 1/2 or so wider to suit the Rover engine.

Thanks

Mark

The V8S gearbox is the Rover LT77 as used in Rovers, Jags and various other guises.
There are various versions of this box which all look externally identical I think.

The T5 box you are thinking of is used in later chim's, griff's and cerbies I think, it was never in the V8S.

I'm afraid I have no idea if the T5 box would fit in an S, but guess its possible.

It might be worth a post on the chim forum asking if there's any difference in external size between the LT77 and T5 box and if there's any gotchas between the 2.

ideally an MT75 with the V6 vellhousing would suit you. Fitted to the later Granada's though most were auto's in the UK, so quite hard to come by in a non 4x4 (XR4)format. Can't see why a T5 wouldn't work though, a small enough box if you can marry a suitable bell housing to one. Would check the T5 width though to make sure it fits witin the chassis.

Whatever you do, don't buy a t5 adaptor plate it'll be crap. Use a proper bellhousing albeit more expensive and rare.

I've just had a look on fleabay at T5 gearboxes and they do look quite wide, so be careful.
I'll be in the garage shortly so I'll try and measure the width between my chassis rails as a guide - I have a V8S so there's no guarantee yours will be the same width.

That looks great Lee.. Love the orange chassis coat.. makes my black look a little boring.. did you just replace the V6 wishbones and streering rack with V8 items then..? Or was it a little more involved..?

Were they made new and if so who can supply..?

Cheers

Yes fitted the V8S wishbones, steering rack and rear trailing arms, all used and refurbished (I do have 1 brand new wishbone in my workshop though)

I machined the poly bushes front and rear, I converted my car to rear discs before fitting the V8S arms so these fitted straight on

The bellhousing for the T5 was machined and modified by me although I think they are available to buy again (for a price!!)

God that looks good, makes mine look a bit ratty. I wish I had the time for a full body off makeover, but until the inevitable outrigger malady strikes, that is not going to happen.
