Air Filter - Pipercross vs Standard - what benefits?

The side of my air filter has a chunk of rubber missing so I need a replacement. Is there any real benefit to spending the extra £12 or so on a Pipercross filter or should I just save my money and get a standard part?

very little apart from the piper one is ment to last a life time and just be cleaned rather than replaced every 12 months.

Better air flow maybe, offering a small performance edge? I remember when I first passed my test and the K&N panels were marketed as having better air flow (ping pong balls in the air tube demo....) fitted one to my scally saxo...
