My hearts been set on a Monaro now for a couple of years, and it's just got to the point I can afford one, around the £16-17k mark (I'm 25 with 4yrs NCD). My head bought my current car, a Honda Jazz so I think it's time for the heart to make the next purchase biggrin

I'm currently torn between 2 models, the 5.7 VXR and the 6 litre VXR which I can just about squeeze into my price bracket. Apart from the obvious engine differences and the boot size, are there any other smaller differences I should know about, such as suspension revisions etc?

My 2 main questions though come from the fact I've just bought a race car which will be delivered sometime this month. Ideally I'd like to tow it (it weighs about a tonne), but wondered how a Monaro would cope as a tow car? With all that V8 torque I hope it would be fine, but what about fitting a tow bar to it? Has anyone done this? And how discreet can they be?

The next question is the size of the boot. I hate to have to choose a car like this based on the size of the boot, but it's a consideration because of all the crap I need to carry frown I can find the boot size in litres on the net for the 6 litre VXR but it would be more useful to have width and depth dimensions which I couldn't find. Would anyone be able to give a rough guide for this?

Any help would be enormously appreciated biggrin

If boost space matters, buy that one. You can buy lots of upgrades for either car....but it would clost a hell of a lot more to buy extra boost space later on lol

As for towing. Towbars are available, and it will tow anything you need. But from a legal point of view, no towbar was legally approved in the UK, so whilst it is prfectly capable and no doubt safe.....legally it could be tricky should something nasty happen and it was investigated.

It's true that the 'Ro is not homologated to tow in UK.

The 6.0 is definitely the better car as the engine has more midrange torque and shorter gearing to make best use of it. It is also much more common.

Thanks for the responses guys!

I didn't actually know a car had to a certified to tow. I guess you learn something new every day! After a look around it seems a lot of the more interesting cars around suffer from the same thing too frown

I'm now off to look at other ways of moving a race car around. My garage has to vibrate to the sound of a V8 one day smile
