Hi,
I recently left my lights on and completely ran the battery down. I got a jump start and everything was okay. However, when cold and idling it revs by itself. Is this something to do with the battery running down and effecting the engine managment comp or something like that??

Could be. Contraty to popular opinion it can take a long time to charge a battery from driving/running the engine. I would put the battery on a charge overnight and then see.
The ECU will also have reset to the defaults settings and lost any adaption data it might have had. This can cause problems as well until the ECU starts to adapt again. Problem is that this happens with the temp at 90+ degrees so find some traffic to sit in.

Strange that you mention temp Steve.
My Chimaera 4.0HC runs great when cold, but gets a bit "lumpy" like it was on 7 or 6 after sitting in traffic (getting hot) and then after a hiccuppy pull away, it (sort of) half clears and then continues to be a bit of a chew. Clears after it's switched off then re started later in the day. This happens periodically, not all the time and after changing the dodgy looking plug leads, I am starting to think it's a fuelling prob. Any comments?

Could be but equally could be something like a sticky injector or two, duff sensors and so on. Might be worth sticking a ECU fault code reader on it. If nothing there, difficult to check without a rolling road to reproduce (and investigate) the fault.
My 4.0HC suffered from occassionally very high idle speeds (about 1400 revs) and coughs and splutters occassionally.
While fixing another problem, I changed the plugs, the HT leads & cleaned the stepper motor and a few other components (like the dizzy) and never had the high idle problem back.... probably not one of the aforementioned things, but likely that I just made the problem go away....
Interestingly though - comments about air density and temperature are VERY true. Mines like a rocket in the current cold mornings, but only with Optimax in the tank. Run on plain old unleaded and you just dont get the urgency. However, please note that mines had the small alteration to the timing to cope with 95RON so is slightly different....
