Taking the Michael with ANPR van
Discussion
Whilst I have no problem with ANPR vans catching the uninsured and untaxed and unlicensed amongst us, I wonder if they use the same technique for Talivans?

I'm in favour of APNR used to detect unlicensed vehicles, etc. Often they are uninsured as well (according to other posts) and some are driven by scrotes who are wanted for other offences. The great pity is that all too often they're persistent offenders whom the courts just release with little more than a rap over the knuckles
I would have serious reservations about the aluminium ladder reflecting any emissions from the van!

Streaky,
I am begining to wonder, nay, beginning to think that perhaps these ANPR vans are not as innocent as we are led to believe. After all, why go to the lengths they have to diguise it if they are only checking number plates for tax or insurance evasion.
Once a vehicle is on that road, it will have been filmed by the van at anything up to perhaps 500 - 800 mts. So why disguise it? Can it be they are also checking speed and having tickets issued. The video equipment will be the same as the Talivans so why not use it for speed as well?
Maybe the scrotes have learn't to spot them and can turn around to avoid etc or scrotes mates will phone others to warn them if they spot them. Either way I hope they get them however the gits who tried to do my gran out of £800 for doing the lawn had a number plate that belonged to a 4*4 in the north that was all legal and above board etc so wouldn't get pulled.
The one in the Photo is an ANPR camera van.
In my opinion it looks silly but if it has the desired effect then why not.
The reason that they do this is to disguise it a bit so that its not too obvious. Thinking about it ligically, word will quickly get around that its there and some of the scroates will detour around it etc etc.
I certainly dont agree that a Talivan should be disguised in this way at all.

Just read on the UK Speedtraps site that the webmaster has been told, presumably by police, to remove the images of the ANPR van, " for operational reasons" otherwise, in the webmaster words "the heavy mob will be around"
What kind of country are we now living in?
The coming police state appears to be here.

Can they do that? It's parked on a public road after all - well, obstructing a pavement, but we'll gloss over that. I can just about understand WHY they might want the images removed, but just not whether there is any legal grounds to even ask.
