500 Serp - QUICK HELP NEEDED !!!!

Can anybody tell me where number one lead goes on a 500 Serp distributor cap? Took the leads off to change them thinking I had a picture somewhere but I've managed to lose it. I believe the firing order is 1 – 8 – 4 – 3 – 6 – 5 – 7 – 2 going clockwise.

All help gratefully received and all abuse completely deserved

Stick something in plughole to find tdc, and finger to tell when its in compression. Just before TDC compression rotor arm will be pointing at plug lead you asked for...

Is that the only way? Is it not always in the same place then?

If you assumed that the dizzy orientation was as shown in the diagram, you risk the short cut turning into a long cut. The slow approach is often faster in the long run.

Seen a few that are different and arent the same as that diagram including mine which has gone now so i dont have that problem

Had this problem a few months back,and that diagram was wrong in my case,found no1 by the method outlined above..

Now it makes sense why you made such a pigs ear of installing your cam...

You're supposed to make sure the valves open at the right time... then stick the dizzy on
