Want to put about £5k into the market - a mix of some bank stocks, a house builder or two and some brent crude or similar oil ETFs.

What is the simplest/best way to do this?

I don't want to use IG index or similar, as I probably want to hold the stocks for a year or two - and I don't think a financial spread bet is the best way to hold a position long term.

Any ideas?

I use the lloyds sharedealing service www.lloydstsbsharedealing.com

Set up a nominee account & bob's you're uncle ...........

Which builders are you looking at ? I have Bdev & Tw. but not sure I'd be investing at level they are at now.

I use T D Waterhouse and they have been pretty good so far, Also their dealing charge is only £12:50 as opposed to £15 for the one above.

I think Barratts (bdev) will be a good long term but. Taylor Wimpey will no doubt also be ok, however just being at 38p (?) now would spite me knowing they were trading in sinlge figures for a reasonable amount of time (luckily when I got in).

Lloyds, personally see this as a no brainer at 67p for a long term investment.

I would love to be investing a large amount at moment and may well do in another couple of months or so (long term stuff), however all monies are currently being held to one side for next development which is due to start in August & this is priority.

I used to use Hoodless Brennan who I remember being significantly cheaper than those mentioned above (~£6-8 a trade, no admin charges?)

Tempted to get back into it again.

How did your Leeds development go? Well by the sound of things.

Indeed, just finished another (5 houses) in last week or so apart from the off bit of snagging, and as said currently have plans in for next one which we are hoping will start August time.

I presume house in Harrogate sold & things sorted themselves out somewhat.
