Le Havre to Le Mans

Hi guys, im a 1st timer to Le Mans and cannot wait

I was wondering if a couple of the regulars could advise on the best/most exciting route from Le Havre to Le Mans. Would be great to find the roads that everybody else uses....hopefully with some nice pit stops along the way

As you come off the ferry 1st roundabout straight on, (if in a low vehicle use the left hand lane so you can take the underpass further up) turn right at lights keep on this road using the underpasses. Look out for the 1st sign that says Le Mans (Bernay, Alencon)its not far, and take that turn off. That road will take you all the way to Le Mans its the N138 now changed to the D438 and after Alencon the D338 (well it is France lol)

If you need to go South of Le Mans then better not to go into the city of Le Mans join the A28 for your last part and then turn off at J25 rejoin the D338 (N138) and then head North towards Le Mans through Mulsanne easy route for Arnage

When I've done that route I've always gone via Liseux and Vimoutiers. It leads you to the N138 but the roads are much quieter and more fun. Liseux has some big supermarkets, which are very good for stocking up on route. It saves rolling up to the campsite and then having to go out to Carrefour or Arnage.

Close to the route I take if I'm driving down from Le Havre (i.e. I remember to book before all the cabins are gone).

Great little cafe/bar in Trun that's just right for Brunch - open on Mondays for the drive back too!

For those of you wishing to stock up on food\beer\fuel then on the route above I posted not far off J25 is a huge Super U you pass it, its on your left. Just up the road from there you pass Le Bounty thats where I will be its on the right so if you get lost call in and ask for Steve

Yes this route is the best, you will have to cross the main bridge 'Pont de Normandie' = 5€. As soon as you get off turn right, head for (Le Mans) Lisieux, then Livarot, (German Tiger tank to your left at one point) then Vimoutiers, and Gacé. If you have a handling car, there is a rather nice down hill tight bend, a little bit before Gacé (great in my Elise !!!). Just be careful for the french fuzz that's all (the whole route). At Gacé I normally join the autoroute, and the cost will be about 9,60€ to get you to the 24hrs, or you can continue to Alençon on the national roads, but the town of Alençon can get quite chocker !! Then it's Saint Saturnin, and you have a choice to go through like the old way or the slight extension of the duel carrageway (but you will miss the sign posts for the GBW and the town completely). Keep a watch out for the Gendarmes, GOOD LUCK, you will enjoy Le Mans !!
