Thumping rear suspension
Discussion
Hi all,
(93 Mayfair)
due to the huge amount of speed humps round where I live, I have had hi-lo's fitted front and back, lifting the ride height. However, there is quite a severe thump/ knock form the O/S/R when going over a bump. It sounds like it happens when the shock is at its full extension, almost like its bounding out (eg, after compression and rebounding). The ride height is quite high - It is possible to get 5 fingers in between the tyre and arch. Wheels are 5 x 12 minilites. Could it be the shock is that extended due to the ride height it is bounding out? If I drive spiritedly round a roundabout the thumping is almost patter like if its a bumpy roundabout. I'm not sure whether to drop the ride height a bit, or new shocks are req - It has had new ones on the front because the hi-los are recently fitted. The rears have been on 6 mths when I had a recon subframe, and the ride height was reset when the fronts were put on this week.

Sounds like a dodgy damper. At least it's the RH one which you can change in 10 minutes without draining off the petrol and taking out the tank. Removing the damper and driving down the road without it. If the knocking stops, that'll isolate the fault. If not, we'll all try to thinkl of something else.
