Mercedes A class fuel pressure

Hi Guys, can someone give me a rough idea of what the fuel pressure should be on a petrol A class please.
car slowed to a crawl on the motorway but managed to get up the slip road and then towed home.
Car will start and run no problem but will not rev or drive, classic fuel starvation symptoms, air filter clean, unable to check fuel filter yet, would a faulty fuel pump cause these symptoms ?
I have some pressure at the end of the fuel rail.

Not relevant but interesting... Was reading one of my dad's garage journals today about a Peugeot 206 HDi problem car.
It would start and run, but only idle - no revving or acceleration. Diagnostic showed low pump pressure or something, and dealer couldn't solve. Upon investigating the garage also noticed the fuel guage wasn't reading. Long story short: the car has a mechanism whereby, when the fuel tank is empty, it switches to a safe mode to prevent damage to the expensive diesel pump by running it dry. They merely cleaned fuel guage sender at it was fixed.
This pretty much told me I know nothing about fixing a modern car's engine.
Anyway.. first thing I reckon you want to do is get the diagnostics and error codes read (they don't all show up a warning light), then you might at least have something to go on.

Hi mike, thanks for info, without testing I think I have enough fuel pressure at the end of the fuel rail, I dont have access to a gauge so will take off fuel pipe tommorow and check it is flowing ok.
I have a pal who used to work at Merc who has also suggested that the maf sensor will be the problem and he has advised that unlike the porsche you cant just clean it up carefully so Iam going to get a mobile guy to plug it in and test the fault codes etc, and then decide the best thing to do.
what would you recon a maf sensor will cost from europarts with the sender ? that I need with it roughly ?
