interesting. I thought that Fox had pretty much killed both the Alien and Predator franchises with their could-have-been-great-but-were-terrible AvP 1 and 2 (and the substandard Alien Resurrection.)

A 'pure' Alien prequel that taps the horror and suspense of the orginal could be great....given a proper budget, director and script.

Sadly, i'm doubtful now they can ever make a decent Alien movie, and a reboot of the original, which lets face it is a solid-gold all time classic (unlike the films other reboots are based on), is doomed to failure.

Well both Scotts are on-board (Ridley & Tony) and if the story is of the Ship and and its Pilot then its one that could be interesting...if they devote the appropriate resources to it.

So a prequel to the original film. So it will tell the story of the ship the crew of the Nostromo found (with that big alien in the pilot's seat) in it. Where it came from, how it got there and where the Aliens got involved.

So where's the human element going to come from or is it just going to be an alien & alien cast?

yes

First thing I thought is that it could be very good if they make a good Space Jockey back story

Has the potential to be great, dark, gritty sci-fi horror, but will no doubt turn into a dumbed down, CGI fest to please the masses.

It would have been a good link to the A v P films if that big Alien they found had been a Predator.

Or the makers of Predator films made the Predator look like the big Alien if that makes sense!?

From hazy recollection, isn't the "space jockey" (big alien) suspected to be a peaceful alien species? Not sure how or where I got that from but having read a lot of info to the alien universe I am sure I came across that info somewhere.

The auspices could be good if the Scotts are involved as they tend not to make st films.

And it's a good subject. Dunno how, or if, they'd link it in with humans though, but you'd think they'd have to, or it'll just be a film about aliens fighting other aliens and not that interesting.

Exactly what has ruined so many potentially epic films recently. Studios are in the business of making money, and they make money by putting bums on seats. CGI and big BOOMS in surround sound are a cheap and easy way of making families go "ooooOOOOOoooo!!" a lot, and walking out of the auditorium having had a good family day out .... The name "entertainment industry" gives the game away.

Only The Dark Knight has pushed the boundries of the kind of film that can be made to appeal to a mass audience without diluting the story too much.

scratchchin

Not to my recollection.

The original Dark Horse series had the big Aliens using the small Aliens to infest any planet they want to take control of thus wiping the locals out. They then return, mop up the small Aliens and have a sterile 'new' planet to inhabit.

Earth was in their itinery I believe...

Yes, a bit of digging around during lunch has revealed the derelict ship that was found on LV-426 with the space jockey in was possibly a "bomber" with a payload of alien eggs to be dropped onto an enemy planet. The idea is that space jockey became infected by one of his dangerous cargo and landed on LV-426 with a final act of setting the distress beacon as a warning not to come near.

This is almost being like a trekkie isn't it! biggrin
