Leading Technology Outsourcing Company a Network/Server Engineer for a 3 month contract based in Cardiff.

This role requires SC Clearance (Secret Check) so ideally you will already hold clearance or be prepared to undergo security vetting (12 week process)

Just a paste from a job I was looking at out of curiosity as it wasn’t my field. But what the hell is a secret check? But I thing the recruiter was being a bit thick. Or am I mistaken?

That’s what I thought.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Yep, just the standard clearance. It's DV (deep/detailed vetting) that is the really onerous clearance but many sites only need SC.

Yep, my OH was DV checked last year and it was reassuringly thorough.

As said, 'Secret' is pretty much the entry level. They just check your records to be sure you are who you say you are, and that you've not been a naughty boy. No interview, IME.

The higher levels are more interesting; I've had an interview because someone I knew was applying for some interesting work. That was, er, interesting...

Interesting. Did they not get you sign the Official Secrets act and promise not to discuss that as part of the interview? :-)

To the OP, If it looks like a short 3 monther rather than that being the entry to a long term, then I would forget it. They probably wont want to wait while SC is done. I know that in theory your current state of clearance shouldnt matter, and indeed you can complain (to the cabinet office?) but in reality....

Sorry I should have been more specific, I know what the SC and DV clearance means I just have never heard of “secret clearance” I just thought the recruiter was being a bit over enthusiastic with his words.

The OH works for a security company and is regularly rechecked and I expect that means me as well.
