idle speed (again)

I recenlty replaced my idle stepper motor as one of the two coils within it was broken. This cured my high idle speed problem but now I have a new problem...
When the car is warm and stationary the idle speed is dropping to the point that the car almost stalls, then it recovers again to 1000rpm or so and then drops away again. Seems like the stepper motor is cycling at about 1 to 2 second intervals.
Has anyone else had this? Is it likely to be related to the air idle grub screw adjustment such that the stepper can't go far enough in one direction to accomodate? Any other suggestions. I'm pretty confident that I don't have any air leaks.
Any ideas welcome.
