I recently attended another PLC brainwashing session, I mean training course, nothing really stood out differently from the last one I went on.

However the chap at the helm of this regime is a very talented man, and a sports psychologist too for some major cricket/footy teams. He said some very insightful things amongst the crap script he is paid to preach.

He said you will never find a way to do something if you don't know your true motivation, this is right, the amount of times I have started to learn things and stopped...

He asked the question, and everyone (all greasy thick salesman) said money, he delved into it, such as what would you buy, and really got into detail about things, like types of house, carpet,kitchen.. and nobody knew. It struck me, do I even know why I got to work everyday?

I don't think I do. I do not know my motivation for getting up each day and going to the same place. How odd. I should know should know really..

Do you?

I'm not sure about others, but i often send my self off to sleep working out exactly what i would do if i won the lottery. Also as mentioned the starving/homeless (might i add smelly) option is at best gash.... Oh i have a very rewarding job playing a huge game of hide and seek.

Maybe they knew in their heads deep down, but I didn't.

The only thing that drags me into work each day is the money. The reason I need the money is to fund my career change to something much more fulfilling.

My motivations are success and happiness.

I don't care about money, that's not why I work.
Everything I do I want to do successfully, then I'll be happy.

Not England I hope - would have been forced to laugh him out of the room that being the case.

For me it's about the opportunity to express my creativity, and continue to learn and develop as a person. Money doesn't really come into it, since I'd rather live simply than kill myself with work to acquire more 'stuff' I don't need.

Fair enough.

Maslow may have answered most of your questions.

Fear of being homeless. vs the prestige of having a nice house.

I don't want to be homeless and I really don't want a BIG house.

I work to fund the rest of my life - primarily to enable me to take chunks of time off work to concentrate on athletics.

Creating something new every day I work. It happens EVERY day I work.

..oh and there's that new car I'm after (always a good motivator).

Working allows me to have the funds to do all the things I enjoy. If I didn't work, I couldn't afford to have a 7 that returns roughly 15 mpg. I couldn't afford to live where I currently do with a single garage/workshop so I can while away a few hours doing nothing more that faffing about playing with car parts. I couldn't afford to drink the ale I like. Money is not the motivator, it's what the money allows you to do that matters. Some of the most rewarding things you can do in life are free though. I find teaching and helping others to do things they never thought they could do to be hugely rewarding. Also, watching a sunrise whilst sat holding someone you love is priceless. Even better if you then get to have sex with them hehe
Equally though, you need the time and energy to be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour. No good working an 80 hour week EVERY week to then die of a stress related heart attack in your mid 30's. I'd rather have a more relaxed job, as I currently do, than making the absolute most of my earning potential. Life is for living, not working.
