just down loaded the diagnostic software old and new (not sure which I need 97 cerb but with a new ECU and engine) from Dave Hinns website onto the laptop. Tried to run it but the zip files open as lots and lots of sub files with ECF and RTF suffixes and my laptop does not recognise the file types and just wants to send me to the web to search for an appropriate programme.

What are they and where can I get the links to open them from?

TIA

Jes

Make a folder called "ECU" and drag all those files into it. Look in your new folder and amongst them there will be one called "ECUDIAGS" - double click that and bob is your mothers brother!

Poor little PC has been getting hammered the last couple of days biggrin

There's some good documentation on the page with the software as well, or it's also in the engine section of the workshop manual

chaps thanks the programme is working perfectly now. All i've now got to do is get a really hot day, get the engine really hot, stop the engine, make it fail to start, bump start it to make it play up check the settings and bingo I will know what is wrong- easy eh

If you go to the page with fault codes in the software you should be able to see if there is something wrong with the engine without waiting for a warm day. The faults are stored in the memory of the ECU. Check the mapping to if it is far out you have at least a tuning problem.
