Window Electronics - confused.com !

Anyone know the window system quite well on these 'great' cars..
I have had an intermitant problem on the passenger side now for
a while, disconnect/reconnect of the plugs within the door to the
motor seemed to cure temporarily..

Now since the battery went flat a couple of weeks ago and got it
it recovered, the windows leds would flash and a reset of the
fuse got this fixed, fully charged the battery up but battery
still going flat. I isolated it down to the motor on the
window system cos I removed the door card and it was 'boiling'...

In the mean time I had noticed the down button had gone dead on
the centre console, normally they click as you press.

I have since just replaced the door system but still have the same
problem (pretty pissed !) so is there something in the centre console
window buttons that can fail ! can't be a fuse right cos motor is getting
hot again and must disconnect as it will probably either catch fire !or
just kill the battery.

I think it is in a 'stuck' down position because
I did a quick test on the new motor system and it went down...
forgot to give a more vigorous test....(st)

Glovebox out, then undo ribbon cable then check for battery drain.

Console buttons known to fail 'stuck in'

To remove button assembly undo three m4 nylocs, radio removal can help further

I had same problem on my drivers window the button was stuck.
I took it apart cleaned it and made sure I never pushed it to hard as to make it stick again not had a problem since.

Passenger side;
remove glove box
undo ribbon cable
reomove 3 m4 nyloc nuts and press out into cabin

Drivers side:
Remove radio
then as above

It is correct to roll the front edge up and out right ?
How much brute force does it need before you are actually
gonna break something !

It will com out just watch you don't braek the lid!

sorted now, thanks.... 5.5mm locknuts and then the button facia goes onto the circuit board and it is sensative to how much you tighten up....

Silicone spray/house polish makes the job easier second time round. Spray before putting it back in.

Worked a treat for me.

did you manage to sort out the window operation? - my drivers side window will go down but not up anymore, just the one button) that's dodgy - I took the drivers side window and door button unit out this afternoon (thanks GrahamV - manual v. handy) and tried a bit of WD40 to try and free the button but no joy - anybody any ideas? is it repairable? - if not anybody know wether you can get replacements from anywhere?

(BTW the window closes itself when you close the door and arm the immobiliser so I'm guessing it must be the button).

Hi Mark,

the reason the window does not operate upwards when open is that if it were to do so, then the window glass would hit the bodywork when closed.
If you notice when you close and open the door the door glass will compensate for the the seals.

Maybe a completely different issue but my driver’s side window will go down fine but will only come up so far then seams to be stuck on something, probably the seals. The only way to get the window up the is to get someone to help me and push it up from the outside (pushing on the glass) at the same time as holding the button, or if I go up and down a few times it will eventually work its way to the top. Not had a proper look yet as this only started happening yesterday.

Best way to examine what it is really doing is to remove
the door card and then maybe peel back the rubber seal.

See if it is catching on the runners...or hitting the
door rubbers..
