4.5 throttle link rod ends.
Discussion
How many of you have replaced these and how much did you pay for them?
I've just found a source for some direct replacements of the silly pop on ball items with proper spherical rod ends for a guy literally a 2 minute walk from my house.
Would anyone be interested in some? Currently about £20 for the pair but might be able to do a deal if I ask for a batch.

I had a complete replacement rod made up by a chap in the West mids with 6mm ends rather than the standard 5mm, he chose 6mm as it was apparently a more common size. It looks like I need to replace the rod ends again because there's a little play in the linkage.
I think part of the problem is that the rod moves through a 0 to 90 degree arc rather than a 45 - 45 meaning that any play has a much larger difference between the banks on the first part of throttle opening. I'm wondering if it's worth welding some different arms on to the existing setup ...

As I see it, there's no need for the universal movement that a ball-joint provides.
And I hate that little locking clip that flies off when you try to remove it.
I recall someone mentioning rose-jointed rod-ends here sometime. Better than those horrid ball-joints, surely.

That's wha these spherical rod ends are. Not they same silly ball things.
The ones I've found have self cleaning nylon bearings that need no lube. You should never lube a spherical rod end anyway.
I'm not sure you get much improvement with a plain single axis bearing though. As long as it's a good fit it should be fine. With a single axis you may well have issues with it binding if there is stilght miss-alignment between the two mounting points.

I'd still take a pair of these. They sound better than other options.

Andy,
You're right I thought people were getting rod ends from Ondrives not the same parts again.
The ones I can get are like these but instead of a hole in the bearing portion they have a threaded piece. I've checked the threads and they are the same. Ondrives want £13 each for those
Interestingly mine has 2 normal right hand threaded ends. The left hand thread portion is in teh link rod itself.
Lets have a list then.

I replaced mine last year with some from these guys, no problems and quality seems good.
