Has anyone been to Sat Bains With Rooms in Notts?
Discussion
Had our wedding there when it was the Hotel Des Clos back in 2002 and the whole experience was fantastic. Very fond memories
vaguely remember the breakfast was excellent. However since then it has been extended and has become all about Sat Baines.
According to people who have seen both, it is now good but very expensive and has lost a lot of its appeal.

A close friend of one of my work colleagues went and really rated it, but you're paying Michelin-star prices (we had a smaller bill from Petrus!) for what I'm guessing isn't quite that level of food.
I'd guess it's an image/fashion thing...I'm sure it's good, but once again marketing is king in this country...

OK, review time.
It was really good.

Ok, there are 3 menus available all are tasting style there is no a la carte. You just pick how many courses you want, 5, 7 or 10. You also have the option of cheese and the famous Great British Menu winning Egg, Peas and Ham.
We went for the 7 +Egg/Peas/Ham
In style it was leaning towards Heston in some of the techniques, flavours and textures but much more approachable. We started with an 'extra' Leek soup with fish balls with set the scene nicely.
Our extra course came next the ham duck egg and peas +pea ice cream was simply divine and I can understand how it won the TV show.
Scallops were next and perfectly executed. Smoked salmon followed, a large cube with some delicate smoking and acompanied by a lovely sauce. A waldorf Salad was a jelly with the flavours in the jelly part, the most heston of the dishes.
My favourite course was the main, Lamb rump with greek influences. The lamb rump itself I found a little disapointing but the mince and accompaniements certainly lifted it to another level and made me think of a holiday on the greek islands. Lovely.
Truffles and unpasturised cheese was next which was wonderfully rich.
A pre dessert cleansed the palate before the real desserts. The 1st was made of the most deep and rich chocolate flavours with hand made popping candy on top which made the most amazing sensation in the mouth. The final course was my wifes favourite. Passionfruit, toffee just a wonderful mix of sweet and sour.
We also opted for the wine matching menu. I have had this before in various places and this was the most well matched one I had experienced. It was very clear that Sat runs a very close knit team with the Sommeliers and Chefs working together for the very best match for the food and wine.
Staff and service were excellent and exactly as I would expect.
Would I go back? yes, most certainly.
