Some numpty broke off the nearside door mirror on my S3 while it was in a public car park. Obviously when my private investigator identifies the culprit I will have them executed.

Anyway, the mirror is now hanging off the car held on only by the wiring. I can see the dreaded grub screw in the door recess but the only way I can see to get it off is to cut down a suitable allen key. Problem is I can't see what size I need. I reckon they hung the door mirror from the factory roof and then built the door around it. What a nightmare of a design.

Before I end up cutting half my keys does anyone know what size the grub screw actually is.

If anyone is interested here is a great link from a Lotus website that explains how to dismantle the mirrors with pictures included. Note how Lotus made access somewhat easier..!!

i think they're 2.5mm or 3mm, but can you not lift the colar on the otherside and check?

I've been messing about with mine recently, but can re-check when i get hoe if you wish.

Thanks.

The other one has been changed by the previous owner. He has discarded the grub screw, drilled a hole in the opposite side to the grub screw and used a self tapper instead. Much easier to get to, I intend to do the same on the passenger side.

If you get a chance to have a look when you get home that would be great.

Brilliant. Thanks Max.

I'll start with cutting down the 3mm and see how it goes.

Cheers...Ralph
