Seven type kit cars
Discussion
I'm know this is a little hypocritical, but if you search there's a thread in the kit section where someone gives the pros and cons of most of them. No guarantees he's right, but it might help.
I can only comment on two. The Caterham is obviously the blueprint for the various Sevens (in modern terms - due repect to Mr Chapman and co) and the Westfield is the most numerous competitor. Dynamically there seemed to be pretty little in it between the 2-litre Zetec and the handful of K-Series powered Caterhams I've been in. Arguably the Westie was actually felt a little quicker thanks to the extra oomph.
The perceived wisdom seems to be that the Caterhams are higher quality. I think stems from the fact that it's a very simple 'Mecano' type kit with little room for builder error. Some of the others can be every bit as good, but it's easier to get them wrong. It's also worth noting that the De Dion and IRS cars are favoured in Caterham circles to their live axle cousins. I know that's a huge can of worms in itself, but if you share that opinion then the number of competitors which stuck to live axle could be a factor. Certainly the Caterhams that I've been in have felt well screwed together with no squeaks, rattles or crashes and quite good ride. For a 550kg toy they feel remarkably like a production car in that respect. Of course, the others might do too...
(Sorry for waffling, I just felt I should try and contribute more than 'search for the old thread'
)
ETA You can add the Sylva/RAW Striker to that list!
