Why not make one out of steel .. might be more robust.

I believe Steve Heath had to do this on this 520..

Hi all

What value do we put on such a thing as the Top aluminum diff bracket in good condition? What is it's rarity value etc!

I bought a new one (late wedge with the strengthening plate) via ebay last year for about £30.00 if that helps (or not!!). I think they used to sell for about £150 from TVR dealers. TVRcar parts probably stock them so you could get a current new price from them.

I recently picked up a rolling chassis for a 280i complete with the full rear end including the aluminum bracket you refer to. If you don't have any luck on that side of the pond, send me a message and I'll be glad to work something out with you.

Thanks for that Marshall but I have got one local, sending it up to me this week. If you look in Dunlop Tuscan challenge I posted a thread in there and some of the other race lads are looking for one. Mickey.

No point trying to re-invent the wheel; this lightweight alternative is the best option IMHO. The strengthener makes almost triangular in plan view.

This is what happened to mine...

I even broke a steel version but I then made one with a lot of cross bracing (like a model aircraft wing) and that has been fine.

What are the symptoms of this when it goes - does the rear get quite loose?

One of the wheels can protrude from the wheel arch...

Not in my case. Several big bangs followed by very loud clunking when being rough when changing gear. The diff rests on the two lower mounts which keeps it in position but it rocks in a front to back movement. At first I had though I had broken a drive shaft (similar noises) or the diff itself.

Yes, the clunking is a 'good' sign. Usually on acceleration, similar to a UJ clunk but louder.

No we will not be at Brand's as my car is still at TVR Power being sorted. Hope all go's well for you down there as it looks like ill be handing my Class C trophy over to you at the end of the year.
