G50/50 Cleaning
Discussion
Hi Mark
It's probrably best to drain the oil out and save it . After that you can rest the box on 3 bricks , bell housing down , so it doesn't pivot on the input shaft . Also you shouldn't rest it on this shaft as it may damage the input bearing . Degrease thoroughly then use brush on etch primer otherwise , being aluminium the paint will flake off . Then use a non cellulose based enamel and brush on , otherwise it will disolve and pull the etch paint . Cellulose based paint can be sprayed on sparingly or it will run and pull the etch .
If the oil is 3.5 litres and clean I should reuse it as the wrong oil can ruin the crownwheel and pinion .
My Audi has a similar box and there is no service interval for the oil . The oil has done 208,000 miles and is clean .
